Scraping, or more accurately, IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation) is a non-invasive physical therapy technique that uses specialized instruments to treat soft tissue injuries and pain

FAKTR is a more specialized application using these same tools

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM) involves the use of specialized tools to detect and treat soft tissue dysfunction. The instruments are applied to the skin with gentle pressure and specific strokes to break down scar tissue, adhesions, and fascial restrictions. This process stimulates the body's natural healing response, promoting increased blood flow, collagen remodeling, and tissue regeneration. By addressing soft tissue dysfunction at a deeper level, IASTM can help alleviate pain, improve range of motion, and enhance overall function.

Dr Cohen is a Certified FAKTR practitioner. FAKTR stands for Functional and Kinetic Treatment with Rehab. It is not a technique, but rather an approach to working with this fascial system in restoring function. It utilizes both manual work and Myofascial tools. FAKTR utilizes 5 treatment steps:

  1. Treatment in the position of provocation (pain, loss of range of motion, feeling of tightness within the fascia/soft tissues) and during motion.
  2. Treatment with the Motion of provocation
  3. Using Eccentric loading with resistance
  4. Using specific Functional activities with resistance
  5. Treatment while adding proprioceptive input

The result is frequently increased  range of motion, better overall movement, coordination and less pain!
